My son has been wanting a laptop for a while now and this year the prices were low enough that it because THE year for him to save up the money he received has gifts for his birthday (in early December) and for Xmas. It was very hard for him not to spend his birthday money for a few weeks but I helped him out by hanging on to it for him. He drove us all a little nuts looking at laptops the past month and telling us all about 100 different ones he found, but I understand the anticipation of something like this.
Anyway, this past Friday we braved the return shoppers and headed out for him to purchase a laptop. He was determined to buy one at a store that day and not order one. I told him we could go to as many stores as he wanted (I don’t know where that came from). We hit a few stores and then finally he found an Acer he liked at Best Buy. It was crazy up there and the guy helping us (reminded me of a scarier version of Dwight from The Office by the way) wasn’t sure about price and kept saying $399 which I knew was really wrong. He scanned it and it came up $699 which was find and then realized it was a different Acer that was only $399 so I raised an eyebrow and said really? Hmmm, could I see that one? He grabbed it out of the back still in the external shipping carton even. For only $399 I couldn’t pass it up for what I needed so I ended up spending my xmas money too. That is very unlike me and I think it has thrown a few people that I spent that much on something for me, including making me have guilty pangs too!
T is thrilled with his purchase and has been showing or telling everyone he sees or talks to all about it. I’m proud of him for saving up for it also and I know he will take good care of it. We spent Friday afternoon installing security programs and getting things set up. Still a bit of tweaking to uninstall crapware that was on it at purchase, but they aren’t as bad as some new computers we’ve purchased in the past. As you can see in the picture, T’s is the bigger one and has a cool light up logo on the back, he even has a subwoofer built in and it sounds nice.
We both need to get bags though. Anyone have some new laptop bags that fit widescreens that they would like us to review? T and I both are willing to do reviews on them and any other nifty accessories, skins, etc. for laptops. Just drop me a note.
I’m going to encourage T to do another review (remember his first was the Flip Ultra) and post it here. I don’t think I will have to twist his arm to do it though since he is excited to share his news with everyone right now.
