Planet Earth DVD SetI might be a little slow on seeing this, but wow is Planet Earth fantastic! T watched a few episodes on the Discovery Channel not too long ago and raved about them. Then he asked me to TiVo any other episodes so he could transfer from the TiVo to his computer to watch. He still raved so I decided to get the DVD boxed set for the family. I don’t buy a ton of DVDs, but this set is well worth the money!

All three of us have been watching and enjoying the series. The video is so amazingBird of Paradise Alien and just wondrous to look at. So many amazing places on Earth and the animals that live her. One of our favorite parts is on the Pole to Pole episode showing the Birds of Paradise. This one little guy looks like an alien and jumps around, amazing. It’s hard to believe it is even a bird when you look at the still photo like this. The episodes on caves is so breathtaking in some parts, but Hubby loves the icky part of this one also with all the bats and their “stuff” and interesting creatures living in the caves. I could go on and on with favorite parts of the box set.

I should also mention that this is one of those videos that is fine on a regular TV, we’ve watched it a lot on a standard tube type TV. However, you might remember that I got a flat-screen TV several weeks ago and the difference of the image on that TV is amazing!

If you enjoy nature type shows I’m sure you will love Planet Earth. It really is spectacular! This would be a fantastic gift for yourself or for other friends and family. Age won’t even matter I don’t think, both young, old, and every age in between should enjoy this.

You can find it on Amazon with Free Super Saver Shipping. You can also view all the Planet Earth products available on Amazon.

For all of my fellow homeschoolers there are limitless possibilities in using this set for school. From just watching it to reporting about it, using it as a jumping off point for more in depth study, introducing a topic, and just on and on. A very valuable addition to any homeschool family library!

I loooove discovery documents, so thanks for the tip! Sadly Discovery Channel here in Finland is a pay channel (don’t know about US, is it free there?), otherwise it would be so nice to have it. But a DVD is always something :-)

I have had this on my wishlist on Amazon for a while. I hear great things about it from the amazing pictures to the great commentary. I will get it one day when I can justify spending the money

I have not seen this but would love to watch it – bet my kids would enjoy it, too. Thanks for the review!

I haven’t seen this one, but our family is very fond of the “Dirty Jobs” series.

    It does sound very interesting.

I like very much of those kinds of documentaries.

WE LOVE Planet Earth. When it first aired we tried to catch it while it was on so we could watch it in HD (We have 1 HD TV but it’s not the one with the DVR). It’s done so well it’s like you are there. And they go places that you don’t normally see on Discovery. I am not a home schooler but I agree this would be perfect for home schooling. So much to learn.

This has really come down in price. I remember two Holiday seasons ago we were going to get this for the in laws, and granted it was on Blu-Ray, but it was in the $100 vicinity.

Oh yea – this IS the most amazing DVD Series! We ordered them all in Blu-Ray on our Netflix last year and were addicted. It puts you in a different world when you are watching it…a place that is very calming, yet very alarming because of how much you really don’t know about our world and it’s other inhabitants. Very eye-opening! Glad you loved it!

Somestimes i wish i had cable…I never get around to buying the DVD’s. But if i were to win an Amazon gift certificate… Wonder if the library has it?

We have been recording these and watching them as a family – really enjoy, and my kids are a lot younger than yours!

  • Janine

We watched this series when it aired on TV and it was amazing.

I have this and it’s amazing! I got it part of the Natural History Collection and it was a pretty good deal. 17 DVDs for only 100 dollars.

I’m glad that you enjoyed it!

I loved the Planet Earth series, except the one with the bugs. Ewww. Photography was amazing. No wonder it took 5 years to film.

I missed this post when you originally wrote it. When we upgraded to a very nice HDTV set and a Blu-ray player this was one of the first Blu-ray purchases we made. It is spectacular. We’ve really enjoyed watching it and every now and then I randomly pick on of the segments to watch.

My husband watches these types of shows. Today we were watching one about what would happen to the earth if humans just vanished. It was really good!
