Deli Creations

I recently received a coupon for a free Oscar Mayer Deli Creations sandwich. T is a big sandwich eater so I gave him first dibs but he was not interested, so I picked up my freebie at the grocery store the other day. My choice was the BistroDeli Creations Ham & Provolone kit.

The flavor was pretty good, a bit on the salty side for me though. It does contain a lot of sodium, 51% of your daily allowance. Maybe some of the other non-ham varieties are a little less. The size is good, not too big, not to small – at least for me. I think Hubby or T would want 2 of them at a time.

Since our family recently started doing the recycling on all of our trash I really notice packaging on items. The Deli Creations unfortunately have a lot for one small sandwich. There is the outer box, this actually has that gray foil type thing in it also that you put the sandwich on in the microwave. Then there is a plastic wrap on everything individually – the bread has a package, the cheese has a package, the ham has a package, and the sauce has a package. It is understandable why they are packaged individually, but still a bit bothersome to have so much trash.

I have been hunting for my receipt but must have already put it in the recycling bin, but I believe the cost is about $3.50 or so. Not cheap, but you really are paying for convenience with these kinds of kits. It is cheaper than buying your lunch out generally, but still quick and easy to grab and go with.

I’ve gotten these sandwiches on sale, and was generally impressed, but I do agree with you about the packaging.

i use to buy these for my hubbys lunch, but then the price went up and they just became to much of a hassle with all the packaging.
    they are good though

I like the comment you made about packaging. I have been considering that a lot lately. So much waste for such small items. Good point!

love the taste of these sandwiches but not the price!

I’ve always skipped these ones, just from the price, but I guess it is cheaper than eating out.

I’ve tried Deli Creations in the past and wasn’t crazy about them. A lot of sodium, like you said + they were sliced a bit too thin for my taste.

  • Together We Save

I like these too. But you are right they do produce alot of waste.

I’m not a fan of the packaging on kits like these either. They remind me of the Lunchables kits, which are soooo wasteful, but I buy them occasionally as an easy-pack lunch for my daughter. Honestly, I don’t think they’re too healthy either.

As good as the idea sounds, that comment about the sodium content killed it for me. I’ve been trying to limit my sodium intake, but it’s so hard to do when most packaged foods contain an obscene amount of the stuff.

These sandwiches are a bit pricey for me!

The are regularly $2.50 a box at my local walmart and are often on sale for 2 for $4. Plus i’ve been finding lots of coupons lately – either printables or in the sunday inserts. They actually reduced the box size – although i do see some of the larger boxes on ocassion but it is kind of a pain to have to open each thing. I have been impressed with the amount of meat you get and ive tried a bunch of different varieties!
