SMARxT DisposalBack in July I stumbled across SMARxT Disposal and meant to share it then, but I forgot. Stumbled across my note in the iPhone about it today so I wanted to post before I forgot it again.

For years we have heard to flush our old meds down the toilet, but now that is not the case. There is a small list of exceptions from the FDA (see here), but for the most part no more flushing medications. The reason for all of this is that they are now finding some of the medications are having an environmental impact.

On the SMARxT Disposal website you can get the full simple steps to take to properly dispose of unused or old medications to protect our environment more and to protect our children and pets.

I have long worried about this; many pharmacies continue to tell customers just to flush the old pills, and I suspected that might not be correct. Thanks for the site info!!

This is info that I can always use. It used to be that my doctors would accept unused meds to give to other patients in need, but not any more. I knew about not putting them in the toilet or down the sink but never knew about the issues with throwing them in the trash.

I have yet to look this stuff up and we have a ton of stuff I have to get rid of. I was going to call our waste management, but this is way easier. Thanks!
