I am still on the hunt for new ways to swap out items in my diet and my families that are healthier, but easy to adapt to. The whole wheat thing has been one of those areas that hasn’t really been a lot of trouble. When Mom Central asked if I would like to try Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta I thought this would be a good chance to try out something new for the Journey of Me. I am happy to say I am not as crazy as the mom in the video is though about getting my family to eat good for you items – holy cow!
Tonight I made quick and easy spaghetti for dinner. This means I did not make homemade sauce, but instead used a jar of my trusty Ragu with mushrooms pasta sauce. Normally I use vermicelli or thin spaghetti when I cook this, Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta comes in a thin spaghetti so that is what I picked out. You can see it looks like regular pasta, but it does take longer to cook by a few minutes. Make sure you read the box directions if you are used to regular pasta. The taste of it was fine, Hubby and Taylor said it tasted just like the other pastas I’ve used for the most part. I didn’t dislike it, but there was something about it that made it not my favorite – but I really think that it was the size of the pasta. I’m one of those really picky people on size/shape of food and their “thin pasta” is thicker than what I prefer.

The Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta is kind of like the “white whole grain” breads you see in the store. It is still a white pasta, but it has been enriched to give us more of what we need. The taste and texture remains pretty much the same as the traditional pasta we are used to. Ronzoni also makes a whole wheat pasta which is the better choice nutritionally, but in some cases the whole wheat pasta taste and texture is a little bit more noticeable. We have tried other brands of whole wheat pasta and find we don’t mind them if the sauce is rich enough – like a hearty tomato sauce. I think the Ronzoni Smart Taste Pasta would be a good alternative if you were doing a much lighter sauce though and didn’t want the pasta to be heavier.
