Holiday Budget Cutting

I went shopping today at Target and Walgreens. Not really holiday shopping, just had to pick up some normal things for the house and family. I found it really interesting today watching other shoppers though. These were obvious holiday shoppers with lists in hand and carts full of miscellaneous items.

This year there seems to be something different going on with the shoppers though. All of them seem to be thinking really hard before actually putting something in their carts. I heard more people than ever doing math trying to figure out the best bargains on wrapping supplies and decorations. Several folks saying, no, we don’t really need that. You can really tell that the economy has hit so many of us hard this year for the holidays.

While I have a few gifts already, I’m not done and I am like the shoppers I saw today. All purchases will be carefully thought out. I have decided to not buy any new decorations this year either and just work with what I have. Taylor knows that we are cutting back on spending this year also and has really been very nice about it. We’ve had years like this before and the most important part is having fun and spending time with the people we love.

Have you made any cuts in any part of your holiday budget?

We just send cards to friends and family, and I may cut back on that, even…just send to those who send us one first!!
So far…we haven't received any cards.
After re-doing our living room this fall, due to an incident, we are on a tighter budget, but I don't know of a darn thing that I really, desperately need.
I plan to get to the dollar store, soon, to get some puzzle books for an elderly relative, but that's about it!
I like peaceful holidays with NO anxiety.

I sure have! I'm saving money on food and shopping at the dollar store more often! I just got 2 rolls of gift wrap at Dollar Tree and one is Snoopy and one is Santa Clause is Coming To Town from the old claymation movie so it's not like they're cheap!

Been on budget this year more than previous years.I am watching our spending very carefully, clipping more coupons, watching for sale items at the store. I shop during the year for small items for christmas stockings and put them back. Finished those up around Thankgiving.

A friend of mine bought a Tracfone Samsung with a car charger, headset and phone case plus double minutes for $14.99 at Target. I was looking for one at the Target near me, but I couldn't find it. Maybe they're sold out. Know if every Target carries Tracfone?
