Ornament Favorites From My Tree

I thought I would share some of my favorite ornaments. Our tree is a collection of ornaments over the years, this was the way my mom did her tree too when I was growing up. Part of the fun of decorating the tree is unwrapping all the ornaments and remembering that time of our lives. We will be making more ornaments this year and I will post about those when they are done. For now, here are some of my favorites on our tree.

This is one of my Hallmark ornaments that we got when Taylor was born. It has 2 little squirrels, a daddy and a mommy, looking into a little bed with a baby squirrel. You plug in into a light socket and then it will play music and light up when you press the button.

We like the tree to have ornaments that reflect our current interests. Last year Taylor made this ornament out of his World of Warcraft card. After he used the code, he just punched a hole in the corner and tied on a ribbon. This year he added an iTunes card in the same manner.

This one is a homemade ornament that I did. I was just playing around with my craft stuff. The inside a put black paint in, then on the outside I used gold and silver leafing.

Every year we watch A Christmas Story multiple times, we just love it. Here is Ralphie when he is imagining himself shooting the bad guys with his Red Ryder BB Gun. We are still looking for a leg lamp ornament, but everyone is always sold out of those.

This is from 1998 and I made this bigger ornament, plus a smaller skinnier birdhouse ornament for all the women in my family as my gift that year. They were just the plain wood blanks that you get at the craft store. I painted them and used the fake snow texture paint on them also – that was a pain to put on! Hubby helped me get all that snow on thank goodness!

As soon as Taylor was born we joined Parents As Teachers and took part in the program until he was 5. Super program! In ’98 at the Christmas event he made this cute little ornament where they used their fingerprints to make a Christmas tree shape. Taylor liked that he made something, but he didn’t like the ink on his finger tip I remember.

Grandma H. used to always put a little stocking of goodies together for us kids on Christmas Eve. We could open this whenever we wanted and didn’t have to wait for all the big gifts to be passed out or until it was our turn. This was a little ornament that was in my stocking when I was a bit older – it isn’t anything expensive, but I just love it. Last year Mom surprised me and wrapped it back up (she had it on her tree since I lived at home when I got it) and gave it back to me. Now it has a permanent spot with me again.

When Taylor was little we made a whole bunch of these glittered pine cone ornaments for us and he gave them to all the family members. He was so pleased with himself as he handed each person the pine cone he had made just for them.

When we took Taylor to Walt Disney World he fell in love with Pluto. Before we went on the trip he only talked about Goofy, but at a character meet he met Pluto and just loved him. We bought this ornament to help remember that trip and Taylor’s affection for Pluto.

Whenever we go somewhere we try to find an ornament as a souvenir. This was from the trip Hubby and I took to Las Vegas several years ago. Obviously, we stayed at the Luxor. This one has a hole in the bottom that you poke a light up thru so it shines more. One of Hubby’s favorite ornaments.

Hubby makes some interesting ornaments when we craft, but this is one of my favorites. I just thought it was sweet that he thought to put our names and wedding date on the ornament that year.

I would love to know if you do a themed tree, or if you collect ornaments special to your family, or something else entirely for your Christmas tree. Feel free to include links to your own posts about your ornaments in your comment too so everyone can see!
