Why Does He Make a Full Pot of Coffee?

I hear Hubby in the kitchen. He is making a pot of coffee. He is the only one who drinks coffee in our house, except when we have guests. I prefer hot tea.

So my question is this… Why is he going to, once again, make a full pot of coffee? He never drinks it all – it just gets poured down the sink. Goofy!

Do you have a coffee waster at your house or is this something unique in my home?

My husband isn't a coffee waster, but he does waste a lot of other stuff. Like when he makes those frozen burritos? He drowns it with salsa, and usually uses half of whatever is left in the bottle. Never eats all the salsa. Also he pours milk on cereal till it drowns the cereal and just dumps the milk down the drain, men are so strange.

My hubby is a TOTAL coffee waster! He does the exact same thing. Even if I tell him I don't want any, he still makes enough for both of us and then some! I think it makes him feel manly…lol.

    LOL, funny post.
Nope, no coffee waster in my house. It's just me, and I finish every last drop!!!

The thought of wasting coffee makes me shudder ;)

My Hubby did this yesterday!! He called me while I was shopping to see how much coffee to use. I told him and said why don't you just make half a pot and just use XXX amount of grounds.

I get home much later and there is half a pot of cold coffee. He said he forgot how much I told him so he made a full pot.

This was a hugh pet peeve of mine. My husband retired from the Air Force after 24 yrs in Sept 09.. He would make 2-3 pots of coffee a day and over half of that went down the garbage. It was driving me nuts!!!I broke down and bought a single serve coffee maker with the reusable filter. Now I just get annoyed that he doesn't clean out the filter. LOL but no precious coffee is being wasted.

My hubby makes enough to fill hid big mug twice and never wastes, but this is after me threatening to quit picking up coffee while I'm at the supermarket because he was wasting quite a lot. I also put a scoop in his coffee that makes 4 cups so he doesn't have to remember any measurements.
He used to be extremely wasteful, but after 4 years together he has become frugal like me (most of the time anyways, he's not perfect.)

I am the only one who drinks coffee and so I don't waste, I use a single serving coffee maker for one whole cup at a time. I bring out the pot when we have company. You shouldn't throw it away, put it in the composter along with the other stuff.

My hubs makes a whole pot, doesn't drink it all, leaves it in the pot and just reheats it the next day. He learned this from my dad when we first got married. My dad yelled at him for wasting. Rather than make less they just have leftovers! It totally grosses me out.

    Yep, here too! ugh

I've heard that you can use leftover coffee to water plants, but I haven't tried it. Seems like it might keep them awake all night ???

I'm not a coffee drinker, but Dad is. (I've always been partial to Mountain Dew, but I'm off caffeine anyway, so it doesn't matter.) He used to do the 'leftovers' routine, but now either drinks instant coffee or uses a single-cup pot.

It seems like the biggest problem is judging water vs. grounds vs. time with less than full pots. Get a smaller coffeepot, and there'll be less waste.

PS: I tend to refill cereal bowls using the same milk, and then drink the milk. n

My hubby makes enough coffee for the entire US Marine Corps, and he's the only one that drinks it! I ABHOR coffee, and he will fill up the 20+ cup coffee maker and make an entire pot. Thank goodness he doesn't do this every day!

  • katy

It's probably still cheaper than a cup of coffee at Starbucks. DH drinks instant coffee so he just makes one cup a a time.

  • Lori

Ack! Pouring it down the drain? It's so good for the plants!

  • Ingrid

Your hubby sounds like my daughter who rarely drinks coffee. She'll make a full pot and may drink one cup. I like a good cup of coffee that she thinks is too strong plus she thinks I'm wasting coffee grinds by not making a full pot!

I did not know that coffee is good for plants but I think my mother used to put the grounds around the outside plants.

Best wishes for a Merry Christmas and a safe holiday season.
