There are tons of cookbooks out there but I love things with a twist. The cookbook, Legends in the Kitchen: Celebrity Recipes for a Cause, is just such a cookbook. Not only do you get some fun recipes to try, but you also get a little insight into the personal life of some great Hollywood legends, some photos of those stars, and some really great food quotes from them. The recipes run a wide array, from some very simple recipes, to the odd, to very healthy, and to a few more complex recipes. There really is a little something for everyone. Plus, a percentage of sale proceeds of Legends in the Kitchen benefits the nonprofit Motion Picture & Television Fund.
The recipe that really jumped out for me was from Fern Fitzgerald (you might remember her from Dallas) for her “Garlic Bread Specialty”. For just one loaf of bread she uses 10 cloves of garlic and that is right up my alley, not to mention the cheese and cream and butter. Ok – so not a low calorie/low fat recipe, but I bet it is fantastic! Larry Hagman (another Dallas cast member) had a recipe called “Fire and Ice” which I found funny since I just did my Fire & Ice (cream) recipe for the food challenge. His recipe mixes cayenne pepper into honey and serves it over vanilla ice cream and sliced oranges.
I mentioned some great quotes were included. They are all about food and eating. My favorite, “As a child my family’s menu consisted of two choices: take it or leave it” by Buddy Hacket. Don’t you just love that? For all you moms of picky eaters, write that one down and post it in your kitchen! Miss Piggy gives a dieting tip, “Never eat more than you can lift.” How true!

Legends in the Kitchen is chock full of delicious, unique recipes that make it possible for chefs and novice cooks alike to impress friends and family with the same dishes celebrities prepare for their guests.
