I just found out about this series of books for kids, The 39 Clues, the other day and thought it was a fabulous idea! The series is generally for kids ages 8-12 and is a mystery series. When Taylor was that age he loved mystery books (The Carol Marsh Real Kids, Real Places series was a favorite of his). What is great about The 39 Clues is that it is interactive – not only do you read a book, but you collect cards, solve clues, play online, and even enter to win prizes! The next in the series, Book 8 will be released on April 6th, 2010. You can of course get the earlier titles as well.
As the mom of a boy, I know sometimes it was hard to find books for him that he could really get into. When I was a girl I was a voracious reader, but my brother was not. Hubby was never a reader as a child, but now as an adult I have introduced him to the library and he really enjoys reading now. Taylor always liked to read, but didn’t like being “forced” to read certain books at school, when you let him pick his own though he really enjoys it much more. Around 3rd grade he discovered mysteries and still enjoys them to this day. That genre just seems more geared to peak a boy’s interest (girls love them as well). Anything that has kids involved in multiple ways I am all for.
