July is National Grilling Month – hip hip hooray! We really do enjoy grilling our meals – and many times it is the entire meal we cook on the grill. Hubby does a wonderful job grilling for our family. Usually we do a tag team approach and I do the prep work before he gets home and then once he is home from work he just fires up the grill and takes the prepped food out to cook and relax after work.
Beef is one of our favorite types of protein to grill. A lot of my friends think that it is just too expensive to get a steak to grill. However, that just isn’t true. I watch the sale ads for my grocery store and our butcher to see what the specials are for the week. Then I plan my menu around those cuts of beef. Now if you aren’t sure which cuts work well with grilling that isn’t a problem. You can go to Beef It’s What’s For Dinner and go to their Interactive Meat Case section and look up any cut you see in your local ad. It will tell you if it’s a lean cut and the best ways to prepare this cut of meat. For example this week top sirloin steak is on sale at my grocery for $3.99/lb. I went to the interactive meat case, clicked on steaks, then scrolled down to find top sirloin steaks. There I found that it is a lean cut (yay!) and that grilling is a great way to cook it, plus they even give a link to some of the great recipes. This week I’m going to marinate the steak in one of the tequila marinades we received a couple of weeks ago. Along with that we will grill some of our fresh green beans from our garden and some packet potatoes.
What is your favorite item to grill each summer?
