At our house we use a lot of internet on a lot of different items. Our set up is not overly complicated, but it is more than what a lot of folks will use. We have the AT&T U-Verse router which is provided by our actual internet service provider (and television), and we have had the Netgear hub with that from the start. This is because we needed more things connected by wire into our home network than the regular router could do. Sadly the AT&T router only goes to G-band for wireless delivery, but now we have added on the Cisco Valet Router which has N-band and so we connect into this now for our wireless items throughout our home.
THE SIMPLIFIED VERSION!
Like I said, most folks do not need what we have. Most of you just want a super easy home network where you can share one internet connection among multiple computers and other devices that use wi-fi. The Cisco Valet is really the simplest set up I have ever seen and I think would work beautifully for so many of you!.
This little Easy Setup Key is the key to getting started. Just simply plug it into the USB hub on your primary computer.
Now connect the actual router (the box part) with these 2 included wires. Follow the onscreen instructions. That is it! You will be up and running in minutes, honestly!
Now of course you can do more if you want, but if you need simplicity you can’t get much easier than that. I think even the most non-geeky person I know could handle up to this point with ease. One of my favorite things is that instead of typing in long passwords to set up a new item you can just hit the button in the center of the Valet and presto! you are connected – I love, love, love that! Now I am not using the software because we have a different setup at our house (as explained above), but for the rest of you the Cisco Connect software is very easy to use. From there you can control the parental controls also. What is great about this is that when you use parental controls with your home network router those settings will apply to any device that is using that network in your home! If you want added protection still throw on parental controls on each device, but using at least home network parental controls will do a lot for you all and easily!
We have been running the Cisco Valet here at our house for a few weeks now and the speed we are getting on our wireless devices is much improved over what we had before. I am very pleased with it and I would highly recommend this router to you all. Right now in the Cisco online store there is free ground shipping plus a 90-day return policy on all Linksys and Valet products.
