I know!  All the charities this year seem to be hurting.   The grocery store had barely any food in it’s donations bin.  I know they probably empty it every night but I have not seen much in it any day that I have visited.

Just think how much food we could generate if everyone who could afford to would donate just one non-perishable item each trip to the grocery store

I did a food drive in my apartment building this year in conjunction with the Salvation Army. they were so appreciative. my building also does Toys for Tots.

Don’t forget about something as simple as a Facebook ‘like’ or a tweet. Many businesses are donating that way and it is as easy as a click of a mouse!

@FeedingAmerica:disqus  is on twitter and Facebook. Right now you can go to their Facebook page and spread the word, or choose to give an Honor Gift in someone’s name in the form of an e-card.

If you can’t give money, and you are online- give a bit of time- just a tweet or a Facebook post.

I have been there, with 3 kids…and it’ s hard to imagine not knowing what/when you can feed your kids again. Elderly are also hit so hard now with cost of living so high and benefits so low. We are starving our youth, our elderly, and others in a hard place without jobs. Do what you “CAN”  please!

Eileen, thanks for sharing your story. It makes such a difference to hear from individuals who have had to struggle with hunger.

Thank you for sharing Eileen! That must be a heartbreaking place to be in for sure.

Thanks for the reminder. My favorite store has a collection bin and also has a “round-up” program at the checkout so you can round up your total and the difference is donated to the local hunger task force. It doesn’t seem like much per customer at the time, but at season’s end the store’s total is always impressive and makes a generous donation to those in need.

Yes, little bits of change add up quickly!

We here at the St. Louis Area Foodbank are very grateful to all of the folks who host food drives for us. Even the smallest donation can make a huge impact!
Through our partner agencies, we feed more than 57,000 people per week – a staggering number of folks. Projects like the Cans Can campaign make it easy to donate, and to keep food coming in for families struggling with hunger.
