Game time! I remember getting the original Simon game – remember the round one – back in the late 70’s or early 80’s. I loved that game and played it all the time. One of my favorite things about it was that it was a game for one person! I grew up playing games and had family to play with often, but I still liked to have a game I could play all on my own. I think this is one of the reasons I love the game apps on my smartphone now.
Now Simon Flash is a new incarnation of this great game Last year I reviewed the Scrabble Flash game which I love too. This is kind of the same concept. They have converted the game into 4 individual cubes. When you have them lined up they secretly talk to each other which makes you able to play the game. You can play the traditional Simon game by repeating the sequence as it
gets longer and longer. That is the most complex game. Another game you have to simply watch the 4 colors flash and then they mix up, you must put them back in the correct order. The other 2 games require you to guess the correct sequence that either turns off all the lights or makes them all the same color.
The game also comes with this little case which holds all 4 cubes together and the small instruction card. You can actually play the classic Simon game while the cubes are in the case too. Parental BONUS – You can press and hold he 2 end cubes to put the game on MUTE! I love when they have that option on anything that makes noise.
I really like this game. It works just like it should. It is not complicated. I do think, in general, that kids will enjoy this more than adults. They recommend 8 and up, but I think kids younger than this might enjoy it also – use your best judgment. Learning colors can even be done with little brothers and sisters with supervision. For kids a bit younger sequencing is practiced well with this game. The retail price is $29.99, but I think you can find it on sale too. Find out more on the Simon website.
