BistroMD

This time of year many folks are trying to eat healthier whether it is to lose weight or just be healthier overall. There are plenty of frozen meals in the freezer aisles at your grocery store too, but honestly many of them just are not very good to eat. Recently I received some samples by mail of BistroMD and they honestly are quite different than meals. These are better quality for sure and offer a lot of flavor. When you sign up for their meal program it is not just lower calorie or smaller portions of food. Instead your week’s worth of food is designed to give you a balance of all the different nutrients you need. It balances things like lean proteins, carbs, fats, fiber, etc. They do the work for you. You don’t have to count calories, measure portions, prepare raw food, or anything – you just order and reheat. The price may seem high when you first look at it, but divide that out among all the meals and snacks with your plan and the convenience of having really good food made for you and you will see the value of the plan more clearly. Here are some pictures of the real food we tried at our house in the containers they come in also.

BistroMD Mini Cheese Ravioli with Four Cheese Tomato Sauce and Green Beans with Crunchy Almonds

These mini cheese ravioli are stuffed with a variety of Italian cheeses and drizzled with a low-fat four cheese tomato sauce. Served with a side of colorful green beans and crunchy almonds.

This was my favorite. The pasta was excellent and not thick or gummy like other frozen pastas can be. It tasted very fresh. The sauce had lots of flavor and I did not even add any Parmesan cheese to this. I loved that the green beans were French cut also and not those regular fat green beans. Very tasty and honestly a good sized portion I think.

BistroMD North Atlantic Salmon Fillet with fire-roasted red and yellow bell pepper coulis and blended quinoa with olives and sun-dried tomatoes

A fresh North Atlantic salmon fillet is oven seared and presented over a smooth fire-roasted red and yellow bell pepper coulis. Served with a blended quinoa with a mix of julienne of sun dried tomatoes.

Hubby tried this meal because I do not like salmon. I can say that this was a very appetizing entrée to look at, I was impressed! The salmon is on top of a coulis (sauce) made from two different colors of peppers and the quinoa was very pretty also with the big piece of olives and sun dried tomatoes. Hubby gave this a thumbs up – for him it felt a little small, but he eats big portions as a rule so obviously if you are wanting to lose weight you would adjust to smaller sizes.

BistroMD Mixed Berry Crepes and Sausage Turkey

A delicate blend of sweetened fat-free cream cheese is complemented by savory vanilla bean extract and ground cinnamon, rolled into a fluffy crepe, and drenched in a mixed berry compote. Served with a side of tasty turkey sausage.

Taylor tried this breakfast meal. The mixed berry sauce is still in the cup in this picture, but once you pour that over the crepes it looks much prettier. Once again the crepes were very light and tasted fresh – not chewy at all and the filling was really delicious with it’s vanilla and cinnamon flavors. The turkey sausage had a nice flavor however the texture, for me (I had a bite), was not my most favorite – it wasn’t awful, but just not what I’m used to. Taylor really liked the sausage though.

So thumbs up all the way around on food. That honestly is the major part I think – taste – because if we don’t like the way it tastes we won’t eat it.
