This post today is very timely since I personally was at the doctor today talking about my own heart health. My weight is an issue that is really causing issues for me, but even thin people can have unhealthy hearts. It is important for all of us to learn about how to keep our hearts healthy and keep sharing with others. My personal goals include keeping an eye on my blood pressure and taking my medications for it as prescribed. Hopefully, as I get healthier I may be able to stop taking that – but we will see what the doctor says since high blood pressure runs in my family. Other goals are loosing weight, not to be skinny, but to be healthy, exercising more to strengthen my heart, and eat a better diet to improve overall health.
Being a foodie it scares me a bit to think about changing my everyday diet. However, things like pork tenderloin I already love and cook often and it turns out it is very lean! Ounce for ounce, pork tenderloin is as lean as a boneless, skinless chicken breast. Plus for me I find that pork tenderloin is so versatile! By the way, I’m working on a recipe (I’ll post it once I’ve done it) with pork tenderloin with a pomegranate salsa. Some other great news about pork provided to me by the National Pork Board.
- On average, the most common cuts of pork have 16% less total fat and 27% less saturated fat than 21 years ago.
- At just 120 calories, a 3 ounce portion of pork tenderloin is an “excellent” source of protein, thiamin, vitamin B6, phosphorus and niacin, and a “good” source of potassium, riboflavin and zine – yet accounts ofr only 6% of the calories in a 2,000 calorie diet.
- Fresh pork is naturally low in sodium (according to the USDA database)
