Surface Tablet Announced by Microsoft

The geek in me is jumping up and down and drooling over this afternoon’s announcement of the Surface, Microsoft’s tablet! I have been waiting for this for a long time and I knew it would come at some point based on the upcoming Windows 8 platform.

Surface Tablet from Microsoft

I love that they built in the kickstand and the cover turns into the keyboard even! Very clever! There will be two versions it seems – both sound great, but for heavy users the pro version will be the one to get for sure. There are different colors of covers available – this is my only negative I’ve seen so far as I’m just not a fan of the colors shown. The surface will also comes with Office installed I believe. Nothing was mentioned yet about when this will be available and the pricing, but it should be coming soon.

I watched TheVerge coverage of this event for photos and details from someone in the audience – no live actual broadcast was allowed. My Twitter pals also helped. Remember that this info is coming 2nd hand really and so some details may be a little off. I’m sure everything will be revealed soon to all of us!

Disclosure: While I am part of the #WindowsChampions, this information was not shared with me in advance. I learned along with everyone else and opinions are my own.

Now this I am liking alot! The biggest draw is that keyboard that is built in- also Office being there. Wondering how it compares in price to the Apple !

It looks pretty darn cool.  I love the idea of a keyboard with the tablet.  Love the iPad, but hate the touch pad keyboard.

The keyboard cover thing is kinda cool, I wonder how good it feels typing on it.

I really can’t believe we are getting another gadget.  Man oh man I hope this one has something the iPad doesn’t! LOL  I love that it has Office, and hopefully a flash player!

The Surface (which, btw, was the name of the Microsoft coffee table from like 6 years ago) looks and sounds like its going to be dead on arrival.  Another blip on the radar of failed microsoft hardware.  Shame really, I was hoping for something to actually challenge Apple and Android based apps….  maybe if they started the nam ewith an ‘a’…

It is exciting to see the new tablets coming out.  Like you, I’m not a fan of the colors, but I am a big Microsoft fan.  I wonder how the keyboard feels on your hand.  Sometimes the smaller keyboards are a bit hard on my hands.  It’ll be fun to check it out though, and see if it’s nice hands-on.  I hope you get to do a review!

This looks like it could be interesting to try, but I’m not sure I would buy it.
