Here Comes Honey Boo Boo – Lovable Rednecks

here comes honey boo boo family

A couple of weeks ago I wrote about this crazy redneck family from TLC’s Here Comes Honey Boo Boo show. The season just ended (why are TV seasons so short these days) and I still like this family very much.

Yes, they are rednecks and they are perfectly ok with that. Well, a couple of the older girls aren’t so sure about that title, but in general the family embraces their lifestyle it seems. No, they are not perfect parents or children. But again, they don’t claim to be that either. What I do see is a family who truly seems to enjoy spending time together and that really care for one another.

While we do not see everything on TV, it did appear that the family is very open minded. June (Mama) seems to really want to pass along to all of her girls that it is ok to be who you are and for others to be who they are. During the season we saw different races on the show – I mention that because sometimes people assume rednecks are racist (yes, some are, but not all of them by far). We were introduced to Sugar Bear’s brother, Uncle Poodle, who is openly gay. The family seems to not only not have a problem with that but also support gay rights. The oldest daughter Anna, aka Chickadee, gave birth to her daughter Kaitlyn on the last episode and the baby was born with an extra thumb. I love that Mama had the attitude that it is what it is and they love her and just move on. Young Honey Boo Boo thought having an extra finger would be nice because she could grab more cheese balls! You just cannot help but laugh. As you can see the family has that live and let live attitude.

I am fortunate enough to know such a huge variety of people. Some of these people are rich, some are poor, some are nice, some not so much – they run across the board. Included in that group are a few who are truly very much like this family in their redneck ways. While you may not want to live their style of life, it does not mean it is not nice to visit sometimes and be able to completely let your hair down either. When they are as nice as what the Honey Boo Boo family seems to be it is even better!

Did you watch Here Comes Honey Boo Boo? What were your favorite moments or one-liners from this first season? Are you hoping for a Here Comes Honey Boo Boo Season Two?

P.S. I think Jeff Foxworthy needs to go visit this redneck family for sure!

Disclosure: None, just talking about something I like.

I cannot stop watching. And I think I heard that they signed on for more shows. I haven’t seen every episode, but I spotted some stockpiling in a room (not that there’s anything wrong with that)…but I’d sure like to know about that activity. Is she a couponer? Is this from auctions (I saw that episode)? I. Must. Know.

    • Jamie

The mom’s a couponer. I think it was in the first episiode or so, they called her the Coupon Queen!

      • kristinwilkinson

Thanks, Jamie! I need to see all the episodes. I had a feeling. Btw, has anyone noticed that her pageant clothing says “Deeva”? (it looks like they get it made) Is that some inside joke? Because it makes me nuts. LOL.

Yay I will watch season 2. Yes, she is a couponer and those shelves are in their kitchen. She apparently got a super good deal on toilet paper at some point. She also goes to these local auctions that have food and stuff in small lots – I wasn’t too sure about that. They are a very creative family for sure.

This family is the most adorable
redneck family I have ever seen. This show is great, and I agree the seasons
are too short. I missed the season finale because of my new work schedule at
DISH. I appreciate this little girl for having an open view about the world,
and you can see this family loves one another. I had to DVR the final episode
on my Hopper, but since I have so much recording space I’m going to add the
holiday episodes when they premiere. I think Alana has a great personality, and
not every mom encourages their daughters to embrace who they are, and I respect
    Momma June for that.

I did not watch the first season, so I hope there is a season 2. It looks like lots of fun!

    great post!

I’ve heard from friends it’s worth a watch. We don’t have cable, but hopefully it’ll come out on Netflix someday!

I never did see the show, no reason but it’s likely I just didn’t have TLC on when it was on. I think the little girl is adorable and it looks like a fun show.

Oh how cute, extra cheese balls. Whoda’ thunk it? :) I haven’t watched this but lately Joie and Jenni (I met her at BlogHer) have been telling me to DVR this, that and the other. Away I go to search to record so I can check it out.

  • Ravzie

No, I didn’t watch. Couldn’t bring myself to take the ridicule I would receive from the hubster. Maybe I can sneak a peak on Netflix if you think it’s worth it!

My 7 year-old daughter has watched a couple of episodes and likes it but I honestly don’t get the excitement about this show. I found it boring and a bit gross…I saw the part where the mom took off her sock and bugs were crawling on her toe. That was enough for me. I feel that this family is being judged negatively by a lot of people and are being used by TLC. However, I’m sure that they could use the money so good for them.

Jeff Foxworthy definitely needs to visit…wow it would be a whole comedy special!! I heard on the entertainment ‘news’ tonight that Honey Boo Boo has endorsed Obama for 2012…that little girl is something else!!! jenniferpeaslee at gmail dot com

I did watch one show after I heard people talking about it but it really bothered me that Mom is so light hearted about her 17 year old daughter being pregnant. Then I read that Mom had a police record and all of her daughters had different fathers and she isn’t married to any of them. She just doesn’t seem to be a good role model.

Aside from the fact that they have to make it outlandish to get viewers, I think they are given too much attention (have to push the show, right?), but I see a lot of negative attention surrounding this show (of course, bc it’s not Lifestyles of the Beverly Hills Minxs). I feel society pushes out of their minds that people like them exist, so when a show like this does air we’re shocked. I’ve never seen the show (don’t have TV), but I’m glad we’re breaking away from the norm. People like this do exist, and perhaps in your backyard. I think this show is trying to bring “acceptance of different walks of life” to tv in hopes that America will embrace it.

Oh I love this show. Haha it’s one of my dirty little secrets and can’t get enough of it. I love how down to earth they Re and they do t care what anyone thinks and they all seem so happy together. I can’t wait to watch season 2
