National Guacamole Day and Easy Guacamole Recipe

Did you know September 16 is National Guacamole Day? Nice! Here is an easy recipe to make your own guacamole at home, but if you prefer to buy already made that works too. May I suggest some nice crispy tortilla chips and a margarita to go with that guacamole?

Easy Guacamole Ingredients Easy Homemade Guacamole

  • 2 avocados
  • juice of a lime
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • fresh cilantro, chopped to make about 2 tablespoons
  • 2 tablespoons of your favorite salsa (homemade or store bought)
  • salt and fresh ground black pepper, to taste

Directions:

Split avocado in half, remove seed. Use a knife (a regular table knife is fine) to slice lengthwise, then crosswise to make cubes. Now use a spoon and scoop out your avocado into a large bowl.

Finely chop your garlic. I used 3 decent size cloves for mine, normally I would add more for just my family, but we had company so I restrained myself and only used 3 cloves. Adjust the amount of garlic to your liking.

Squeeze in juice from half of a fresh lime. Add the chopped cilantro. Add the salsa.

Now I used a fork to smush up the avocado more and combine things well. Be patient, it took me about 5 minutes worth of smashing to get it to the consistency you see here. Taste and add salt and fresh ground pepper to your liking. Go lighter on the salt than you normally would because if you eat with salty chips or other foods you do not want it to be over salted.

Now refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to give the flavors a chance to blend well.

I have never and I mean never bought avocado to use at home. Never prepared a single dish, dip or anything with one.

    I LOVE
avocados but hubby not so much- when I get them they rarely make it into a guac… I cut em in half, sprinkle with salt and eat them with a spoon :)

I never even realized this special day. My daughter just made guacamole on Friday as a part of her homeschooling curriculum on Nutrition. She didn’t like it but I loved it. I even posted pics on Saturday on my blog. I never even knew such a day existed.

Oh no, I missed National Guacamole Day! Avocados are so tasty; you really don’t need to add anything to them….but I like your guac recipe!

Every day should be guacamole day! Guac, chips and cold beer day! YAY! That’s pretty much my recipe too. Except I don’t like cilantro, tastes like soap to me.

My husband made himself some guacamole last night… with onions and tomatoes. Yuck, I think that is smells gross. I told him he had to eat it in the kitchen. I looked out there and he was eating it with a fork. I said there are some corn chips. He said they are stale… what happens when a nine year getting into stuff herself. The enjoys of kids. I do like guacamole but it depends on the day… not onions or tomatoes in mine.

My 17 year old has problems closing up bags too – ugh

Avocado is not my forte so I say – Oops! The above dish does not look appetizing to me maybe for a lack of colour. But that is how the dish is made. Folks eat avocado and bread – urr. Must be tasty to them!

I am not too keen on straight up guac. I like the taste of avocados, but I think they totally mute when combined in a sandwich , smoothie.

Yum!!!! I love love love guacamole. I’m so excited to try this recipe. Thanks so much for posting it. I have been looking for a recipe that didn’t have onions in it because I’m not a huge fan of onions.

Yes please. I avoided guacamole for years and I feel so foolish. I’m not the biggest fan of avocados on sandwiches, but guacamole is where it’s at! I might have to try my hand at making some sometime, but I’m a culinary disaster.
