8 Reasons I Am Excited About Windows 8

The latest version of Windows is officially being released on October 26. Being a PC I am very excited for Windows 8. I have actually been running the pre-release on my laptop for a while now and the more I use it, the more I love it. Here are eight reasons why I am so excited about Windows 8…
Windows 8

  1. A Living Start Screen
I love that the tiles you will see on the new start screen are living. Any that are connected to the cloud will be changing and updating automatically for you. The experience is my living world!
  2. Touch Friendly
You do not need a touch screen for Windows 8, but I love that it is so touch friendly. With smartphones and tablets so many of us have come to be at ease using touchscreens. To be able to have that touchability on my computers now will be wonderful. Over the past year or so I have already found myself trying to use touch on my regular monitor occasionally. Oops!
  3. Learning Something New
I know change can be hard, but I prefer to look at this not as change, but as the opportunity to learn something new. Windows 8 has some unique screen management tools that will take a bit of time to get in the habit of using, but it is a brain challenge. I am a firm believer that we need to be challenged to keep our brains healthy!
  4. Cloud Connected
Windows 8 is connected to the cloud. I can easily connect my Microsoft account to my social networks and cloud storage. The connection to social networks allows me to instantly see what is happening with friends all in one space and interact right from my desktop without visiting the site even.
  5. Consistency Across Devices
The Windows Metro style seems really consistent across multiple platforms. The tiles are used within Windows 8, on Windows Phones, on my Xbox 360, on the Windows Surface tablet, and even on Microsoft’s cloud services like SkyDrive. This consistency allows me to not have to think about how to use different devices – the usability becomes easier because it is the same style across the board.
  6. Apps, Apps, Apps
I already love finding new apps on my mobile devices. Windows 8 is also all about the apps. Just like you can visit the app store to find new apps on your phone, you will do this for your computer now. Apps are easy to install and use.
  7. Windows 8 is Visually Appealing
No, this is not a technical issue, but it still is important to me. I find Windows 8 visually appealing. The flow and movement when you use Windows 8 is smooth and fluid. We may not always consider the visual appeal when thinking about technical issues, but it really does make our experience more enjoyable. Think about the time you spend customizing the look of your devices already – it makes it more enjoyable for you.
  8. Built on the Windows 7 Foundation
Underneath the new Windows 8 is the foundation of Windows 7 which has been an amazingly well-performing operating system for me. I’m happy that Microsoft is using it as a base while still advancing it all at once.

Windows 8 is being released on October 26, 2012. If you purchase participating PCs before then you can get an upgrade for under $15. You also can upgrade to Windows 8 online for your current PC or you can order a DVD of Windows 8. There are lots of options to make it easy for everyone. Visit the Windows 8 site for more info.

Will you be upgrading to Windows 8? Why or why not?

Like I’ve said before to you, I’m not tech savvy. In fact quite the opposite.

But…I trust you. So the fact that you give it your stamp of approval is reason enough for me to choose it, if given the choice.
