While video games were really a huge part of my tween/teen years, pinball came first. Dad loves pinball still! He got me started playing, most likely at the bowling alley. I’m not that great at pinball to tell the truth, I think if I get a high score it is more luck than anything, but it is still fun to play.
We used to go to Branson, Missouri yearly when I was a kid and they have several places called The Track in town. At each one they had an arcade inside with lots of pinball games, plus they had go-karts, bumper boats, and all sorts of fun. Our family spent a lot of time there, but Dad and my Aunt June loved playing pinball against each other. It seemed liked they played forever on just a couple of quarters. This worked out well for my brother and I because we could pester them for more quarters and they would give them up freely so that they could keep playing.
Hubby loves pinball too. His favorite game has Elvira on it, Scared Stiff. We have a family friend who is a collector of pinball machines and his entire basement is filled with them and no quarters needed to play! He has Hubby’s Elvira game even.
I don’t have a specific favorite game, but I do like the ones that let me have more than one pinball in play at the same time. Sometimes I really like the older machines that are a little simpler in design also.
We had a small tabletop toy pinball machine in the 80s that was a lot of fun. Now days you can find lots of apps to play pinball on your phones and tablets. I still would love to get my dad a real pinball machine as a gift one of these days – he would love it I think!
