This week for Throwback Thursday I thought I would talk about cartoons from back in the day. When I was a little girl in the 70s and 80s we would wake up on Saturday morning, while our parents slept in (if they were lucky), make a bowl of some deliciously sugary fun cereal, and head downstairs to watch cartoons in the family room – of course leaving a small sugary trail of cereal along the way. After school there was more cartoon time too. Of course, we only had 6 channels to pick from – ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, and 2 local stations. We watched when they were on because we didn’t have DVDs, VCRs, or YouTube to watch them on. Cartoons these days are just not the same as when I was a kid. Here are a few of my favorites…
Bugs Bunny and his pals were, and still are, my favorites.
My dad liked cartoons too – I remember that George of the Jungle and Grape Ape seemed to be some of his favorites. He used to sing the George of the Jungle theme song all the time.
Even though I did not meet Hubby until I was 16, I do know that Hong Kong Phooey and Speed Racer were two of his favorite cartoons to watch as a kid.
I think they played Popeye and Tom and Jerry cartoons the most. Some I liked, some I did not.
I loved School House Rock on Saturday mornings. These were tossed in between commercials and the other cartoons. We learned how a bill becomes a law, what the function of a conjunction was and a lot of other great stuff from these shorts.
Speedy Buggy and Scooby Doo were more favorites.
The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show was never on enough. I really loved all the different characters they had. Great stuff!
Heckle and Jeckle were my least favorite cartoon growing up. They just annoyed me!
What were your favorite cartoons growing up? Do you still watch cartoons now?
