September is already here. Can you believe it? This year seems to be flying by even quicker than most for me. There have been major changes in my life this year so I think that must have something to do with it. I thought I would share some of the special days and events for this month so you can celebrate and raise awareness on those that resonate with you and your family.
There are a wide range of awareness campaigns this month, a little something for everyone. Remember, these happen all month long!
- Atrial Fibrillation Awareness Month
This is an irregular heartbeat. I know someone with this which is why I included it on the list.
- Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder Month
ADHD has gotten a lot of bad mouthing over the years because people think it is over-diagnosed and often incorrectly. I agree that it does happen, but I think education can help all of us understand that it is a real condition that some have.
- Better Breakfast Month
I’m still so bad about breakfast at home. I added this because I need to do better myself!
- Childhood Cancer Awareness Month
Cancer is terrible in all ages, but in children it is just unthinkable
- Eat Chicken Month
I added this for Hubby who LOVES chicken (sarcasm)
- Happy Cat Month
Peaches, Lottie, and Ozzie (my cats) will get pampered more than usual this month
- Healthy Aging Month
I’m learning this! I want to be healthy as I age and stay around for a long time
- Library Card Sign-Up Month
Everyone should have a library card!
- National Coupon Month
I’m not big on coupons myself because I don’t have time, but I know so many of you love them!
- National Mushroom Month
One of my all time favorite things to eat
- National Ovarian Cancer Awareness Month
Since I’m having my cyst and right ovary removed soon this is on my mind. I’m hoping it is not cancerous.
- National Preparedness Month
I keep saying I’m going to do this, but then I never do.
- Pleasure Your Mate Month
Have to keep those relationships fun and romantic
- Subliminal Communications Month
This just sounded very cool to me!
Special Days in September include:
- 3 – Welsh Rarebit Day
This is a yummy dish that has no rabbit in it contrary to many beliefs
- 5 – Be Late for Something Day
I was born for this day!
- 6 – Read a Book Day
I have stacks of unread books just waiting for me
- 8 – Grandparents Day
I will be with my only remaining grandparent on this day, I love him
- 10 – TV Dinner Day
Who else grew up with TV dinners?
- 12 – Video Games Day
I see an Xbox evening planned at our house
- 13 – Positive Thinking Day
Yes! I really do try to be positive and want others to be that way also
- 16 – National Play-Doh Day
Who doesn’t love Play-Doh?
- 19 – International Talk Like a Pirate Day
- 22 – First Day of Autumn
I think fall is the most beautiful of seasons with the reds, oranges, yellows, and browns
- 26 – Johnny Appleseed Day
We always did fun things in elementary school on this day so it has good memories for me
- 27 – Corned Beef Hash Day
This is another one for Hubby – he really does love corned beef hash (I don’t)
And there are a few observances that last a week in September:
- 1-7 National Waffle Week
- 8-16 Suicide Prevention Week
So incredibly important!
- 15-21 National Indoor Plant Week
I kill all my indoor plants, I need help!
- 22-28 Banned Books Week
Such a shame that so many classic books have been banned by closed minded people
- 29-5 (last week in Sept into Oct) World Hearing Aid Awareness Week
Hearing is so fragile and we take it for granted
This is not, by far, a complete list. There are oodles more but I tried to pick some unique and important ones for this list and share with you they appealed to me.
What special days, weeks, or month long observances do you participate or celebrate in September?
