Mom, if you are reading this – STOP! Everyone else – keep reading!
My mom is kind of tough to buy birthday gifts for. It is not about finding gifts, but it is finding things she has not already bought for herself and gifts that mean something to her. This year I have a creative card idea, the birthday card blitz!
Mom has always liked greeting cards, most of my family does actually. They are all great about sending cards for every holiday you can think of, birthday, St. Patrick’s Day, Halloween, etc. Plus they send other cards throughout the year as a thank you, get well, or just thinking of you. My Grandma and Grandpa Coomes loved getting cards in the mail too and I sent them often in the last few years of their lives. This love of greeting cards is apparently hereditary because I have it.
So at Walmart, in the card section, I spotted Connections from Hallmark, where there are, get this, cards for 47¢ and 97¢ each! Yes, you read that right! So I have seen value cards before and frankly they had been disappointing, but Hallmark is doing it right. These are all great cards, no duds!
Another surprise was the amount and variety of value cards in the Connections from Hallmark line. I mean this is a big selection, don’t you think?
All of these really are Hallmark cards – I love it! Mom will too. At the cost of just 47¢ and 97¢ for each card the idea popped into my head for the birthday card blitz. I can buy a ton of cards and send them to Mom all month long! There is no way she will be expecting this (unless she reads this post). Hubby and I looked through all the cards and started picking out ones that were just the right fit for Mom. Plus, we have other July birthdays so I picked up cards for those folks too.
Look at all of these I got for Mom! It was under $15 for all of these cards, that is amazing to me because some cards can be really expensive.
I found a wide variety of both funny and sincere cards for her. Then I sorted them all out so that they kind of would be sent one funny, then one sweet, then back to funny, and so on all month long.
Then I took the time to not just sign all the cards, but to also include a little personal note inside each one too. The notes are generally a comment about that card and how it fits Mom or it refers to a family joke or something clever like that. No long letters, just simply adding a bit of personalization to each card.
Other than the cards the only other supplies were an ink pen and a book of stamps – and love! So I have all the cards ready to go and I even numbered them so I know what order to send them out. They have already started being mailed since July is Mom’s birthday month. I really do think she will like this way more than any other little gift I would get her. She always says she doesn’t need anything, but who can’t use a little more love?
As a bonus, Hallmark has a rewards program that includes their #ValueCards! For every 5 cards you buy, you’ll earn a reward. Sweet! You can join the Hallmark Card Rewards Program for free.
