Hubby and I headed up to the lake this past weekend for the holiday. Our plans got changed around a bit while we were there, but it was still very relaxing. We stopped at Harry J’s for dinner on the way, good as always. Once we got up to the lake house and got everything unpacked I actually had to do a bit of work still. I took my Nokia 2520 tablet out on the deck along with a glass of wine in my nifty wine glass in a tumbler and got my work finished.
The weather was so nice Thursday night. There were tons of stars in the sky and I tried to take some pictures, but I have not quite figured out how to best do that with my smartphone. But look – I did get one star – do you see it?
Friday morning we got up and headed into town for the annual 4th of July Parade. This is a very small town so it is not a giant parade, but it is still fun to go and watch. Hubby and I even had matching T-Shirts this year.
The one not so great thing about the parade this year was that the emergency vehicles in the parade all had their sirens going. That is a lot of noise in a little place! Other than that it was all good. Here is a short video of some of the kids riding the “train” and a bit more of the parade. I love the kids running to pick up candy from the sides too.
The VFW float led the parade. There are members of this post that ride and there was a sign carried in front that said to stand and salute our veterans. I thought that was a great touch adding the sign and Hubby and I both were happy to stand. My Grandpa was a member of this VFW post before he passed away so these guys were his friends.
Golf carts have apparently become a hot item in this tiny little town. Here is one of them all decked out for the festivities!
It isn’t a parade without some old cars – this Yenko/SC edition was beautiful.
Sometimes it is cool to see the old cars that are not all fixed up too like this old truck. It has a lot of character!
There are always lots of tractors in this parade, Hubby’s favorite part. Many of the tractors in the parade compete in the tractor pull later in the day at the park.
Even the little ones get in on the tractors. Isn’t this cute?
These guys didn’t really decorate for 4th of July, but this was very clever. They made a tandem bike and they also added an electric motor! A very cool creation!
In the afternoon we went back into town to the park to watch the tractor pulls. This is pretty low key, but Hubby loves tractors. My uncle and cousin were both there also so they hung out with us for a while and visited.
Our original plans were to go out on my uncle’s pontoon boat Friday night to watch the fireworks but the boat was not working. Hubby and I ended up staying at the house and watched the sunset, built a bonfire, and just relaxed. It was really nice, we did see a few fireworks off in the distance from time to time.
I had to share this picture too. My parents were up part of the time and Hubby and my dad decided to put together a tree stand Dad got for Christmas and try it out. They come with safety harnesses too and this is Hubby trying it out. The picture is just funny I think. I’m glad he tried it for my dad though because it turns out it is not a good harness and the straps did not hold in place so we ended up throwing it away and are going to get Dad a good one to use.
Like I said, a nice and relaxing weekend. Nothing fancy. Not a ton of people. But I would do it all again. I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend as well!
