One of my current favorite phones is the Samsung Galaxy Note 4 (Disclosure – I received this phone to use as a part of the Verizon #VZWBuzz Lifestyle Ambassador team; opinions are my own). If you just take the phone out of the box it is fabulous, but if you take some time to learn a bit more you will be even more amazed at what this phone can do. My focus today is going to be on tips and tricks that are within the settings of the Note 4. There are tons of options and so I will be dividing this information up between multiple posts.
Accessing Your Settings and Menus
You can reach the settings by going into your list of all apps or an easier method is to swipe down from the top of the phone and then tap the gear icon towards the top right. Once you tap the gear icon the list of settings will come up. If you tap the icon with the little squares next to the gear icon instead you will get a larger selection of options to quickly turn on and off. If you would like to change the options and order of them, on the second larger menu, select the pencil to edit. Here you can drag and drop the buttons you would like into the order you like.
Download Booster for Big Files
If you download large files such as movies or large work documents the Download Booster can help you get those files faster. It uses both Wi-Fi and the LTE network. From the main Settings menu, select More networks, and then Download booster. Now at the top of the screen turn it to ON. Remember that downloads over the LTE network will count towards your data plan.
Pick Your Favorite Messaging App
While the default messaging app for text messages works just fine, sometimes you want to use something different. I personally prefer Verizon Messages+ app. To select which of your installed apps you want to use for messaging, from the main Settings menu select More networks, and then Default messaging app. A box will pop up with all available programs, select your favorite.
Show Your Phone Screen on Your Car Screen
This feature requires your car to support MirrorLink. This options lets you connect your Note 4 to your car via USB and then the screen from your Note 4 will be displayed on the screen in your car. This lets you see the display easier and not have to pick up your phone while driving. I need to make sure my next car has this feature!
Change Your Font
Would you prefer the text on your screen to look a little different or be larger or smaller? You can change the font! From the main Settings screen select Display, then Font. To change the style select Font style and a box will pop up showing you available options, select your choice. For the size select Font size and then select your choice from the pop up box.
Daydream in Colors, Pictures, or News
If you have your phone sitting near you in a dock or while charging often you might want it to display some fun colors, news, of photos. You can do this with the Daydream setting. From the main settings page select Display, then Daydream. From here select which function you would like. Colors will show a slowly moving rainbow of color on your screen, the different photo options will display your own photos, and other apps that are compatible, like Flipboard, can show you news and feeds. If there are extra options for your choice, select the gear icon to the right of it. At the bottom of the screen you can preview your selection and select when to daydream as well.
Lock Screen Information
Did you know you can change what information is displayed on your lock screen? Options include clock and date, weather, pedometer, owner info, and help text. You can select or deselect any of this options by going to the main Settings menu, then select Lock screen, then select Show information to get to the options screen. The options you select will show up in the window if you use a flip case or the full screen when you first turn your phone on from off or sleep.
Again, there are tons of other tips and tricks and options on the Note 4 and I will be sharing more next Tuesday so be sure to check back. If you have any questions feel free to ask in the comments below.
