Win a Programmable Thermostat #VZWBuzz

Are you ready to start making your home a smart home? A great way to start is with a programmable thermostat. There are several different brands of these types of thermostats available at Verizon (disclosure: I am a Verizon Lifestyle Ambassador and am compensated for my work – opinions are my own). The great thing is that you can control these with your smartphone, tablet, or a computer! I love this because it never fails that when I am in bed I want the temperature hotter or colder in my home. Right now I have an app called “Hubby” (ha ha ha – it’s not an app, but actual husband) to control my thermostat, but I’m sure the programmable thermostats would complain a lot less when I ask, via my smartphone app, to go hotter or colder.

thermostat product

The features of the thermostats differ, but everyone should be able to find one that fits their needs and their budgets. It is important to know that while most DIYers can handle the installation of these thermostats, not everyone will be overly comfortable with it. If need be, hire a handyman to install yours. Also, note that not all thermostats will work with all systems in homes. Be sure to either investigate before you buy or be sure to keep your receipt in case you need to return it.

thermostat app

As I mentioned, the biggest perk for me of the connected thermostats is that I can change the temperature with an app on my smartphone. Some of them do even more though and “learn” your habits and preferences and can start adjusting based on that and actually saving you money on your heating and cooling. How great is that?

To help get one of my readers started I am giving away a Honeywell Wi-Fi 7-Day Programmable Thermostat that I picked up at the Chicago Verizon Destination Store Opening. This thermostat allows you to control the comfort of your home from virtually anywhere, just download the free app to get started!

I love that the Nest system adjusts to energy-saving temperatures when your home is empty. We live in Wisconsin and our energy bill is crazy, especially in winter.

Love the ability to monitor and change the temp from any where by just using the android phone app. I want a thermostat that I can control from my phone. I have been looking at WiFi enabled thermostats for some time.

I love the idea that you could adjust the temp if you are hot or cold in the middle of the night. I also think it’s a great way to monitor for extreme temp changes which mean the AC or furnace kicked off. Wouldn’t it be nice to know early in the day that the AC just broke rather than coming home after work to a blazing hot house after all of HVAC companies are shut down for the night? Same thing for making sure the furnace doesn’t kick off while you are out of town and you end up with frozen pipes. I’ve been eyeing these things since I moved and would love one for my new house!
