3DR Solo Smart Drone at Best Buy

Have you had the chance to fly a drone yet? They are so much fun! I have a small one (not the one shown here) and it is cool. Now at Best Buy you can get the new Solo (TM) by 3DR Smart Drone.

So what can you do with a drone? First, just enjoy flying it – like we used to enjoy remote control helicopters and airplane models. Once you add your GoPro camera to it though is when you are really going to be amazed. Think of the amazing scenic photos you can get around your own town or when on vacation. Need to check out something on the roof or higher story of your home? The drone makes this much safer and easier than climbing up on ladders to check things out. How about taking a video as you walk a path to share your journey hiking or along the beach.

Using the Cablecam feature of the Solo by 3DR

The Smart Shot modes on the Solo has some great features to make capturing that video even easier.

  • Cablecam
Lock the Solo drone onto a virtual cable between any two points in space. This lets you then use just one stick on the controller so you can move up and down the cable and concentrate more on your camera. (see photo above)
  • Orbit
Pick a subject and tell Solo to Orbit and it will automatically circle that subject and keep the camera pointed inward to capture an amazing 360 view!
  • Selfie
Just tell the Solo you want a selfie and it will fly up and away while keeping the camera centered on you and capture you in your surroundings.
  • Follow Me
You can go hands free and tell Solo to follow you. It will automatically keep the camera on you to capture your every move!

Controller for the 3DR Solo drone available at Best Buy

This drone retails for $999, a lot of money, but this one really is nice, and it is the first-ever drone powered by two integrated Linux 1GHz computers. With the computer power the Solo can define its own flight which allows user to be able to focus on getting great shots.

If you are a GoPro fan you will also love that the Solo is the first to support full control of GoPro cameras and send the live HD video wirelessly to your mobile device or through the controller’s HDMI port for live broadcasts.

For more information check out the Solo by 3DR at Best Buy, follow @BestBuy and @3DRobotics on Twitter, and watch for the #SoloatBestBuy hashtag.

I wonder how hard it is to learn to use, but this drone really is amazing! It takes selfies and can fly over the area that I want to have it take a picture. I know someone that would love one of these!

I think skill depends on the drone – there are tons of different ones out there. The one I have is a very small one and you control it with your smartphone.

I didn’t know you could buy a drone these days. I’m not sure what I would use it for.

Yep, we are going to see a lot of them I think – all different price points.

I would like to use one for taking unusual pictures that would otherwise be impossible to get.

I have a drone that I won on Twitter. The drone is a sumo drone, not a flying one. Drones are expensive and easy to break. My drone broke within a month and will cost me almost $90 to repair.

Omg, this Solo drone looks really cool! I wonder if I can bring it with me in a carry-on whilst on vacation? :) I hope there’s a less expensive option with these same features one day :)
