[Infographic] Growing Mushrooms at Home

infographics logoMushrooms are one of my favorite foods. When I was very little I thought I didn’t like them because my mom always said they were gross when my dad ate them. Then one day Dad had me try them and they were delicious! I’ve been hooked ever since then. My son loves mushrooms as well. Mushrooms can be very expensive though so I think I’m going to try growing some of my own at home. I found this week’s infographic which is all about mushrooms and growing them yourself. Wish me luck!

Have you ever grown your own mushrooms? What is your favorite way to eat mushrooms?

I’m not the biggest fan of mushrooms but this seems interesting. Might try it for the family.

I love muhrooms but have never tried frowing them. I have seeen kits to grow them, but havent tried those either. I wonder if it is this easy to get the spores? I didnt expect the temp to bettween 60 and 80 either, most mushrooms are grown commercially n the dark.

I have not tried it yet myself, but hoping to soon. I <3 mushrooms!

I love eating mushrooms as part of a stir-fry dish. I wouldn’t grow my own, though; it might seem a little gross …but I’ll keep eating them!

Do you have favorite variety of mushrooms?

Portobellos are my favorite for grilling, and baby bellas are my favorite for stir-frying.

This seems so easy that everyone would be doing it. Since 60-80 degrees is comfortable indoor temp, you could easily do this in the house. Just need to remember to keep it moist. Might try it sometime so pinning it for safekeeping.

I’m hoping to try it soon too Karen. Let me know if you do!

I don’t grow them at home but should. I disliked mushrooms since I was a kid. I’m not sure if I’ve even tasted them. I order my food without them. I really think I should try them and then determine if I like them or not.

Most folks, as kids, had canned mushrooms which are a bit slimy. There are so many different varieties though and they all taste a bit different. I would definitely suggest trying them again when you have the chance.

Did it work? did you get the spores and successful growth?

I have not yet tried this myself – but I’m hoping to very soon!

I have never grown my own mushrooms, but we love mushrooms on steaks, in my Beef Strogonoff. We also like them sauteed! Mushrooms are so healthy, and I would love to grow some of my own. It does not take a long time to grow mushrooms.

I <3 mushrooms too – as a matter of fact they are cooking away with my dinner for tonight even!

I’ve never tried growing mushrooms, but it looks as though it could be fun. Mushrooms are fascinating.

This is so cool! I never ever thought of growing mushrooms, but this makes it seem easy! I can’t wait to grow them with my son and make something yummy!

I have always wanted to grow mushrooms; does not look difficult. When I think of mushrooms, I think of my dad. He would go to the walking trail near where he lives and pick the wild mushrooms he’d see. He would take them home and have my mother cook them up. Needless to say, none of us in the house would go near them for fear of poisoning, but my dad was always confident he knew a safe one when he saw it – he is still with us today :)

You do have to be really careful picking wild mushrooms, my uncle is really great at this.
