Waterfall Salad Set from Wendell August

I serve salads a lot in the summer and having a pretty serving bowl just makes it all taste better if you ask me. Recently I was sent this gorgeous Waterfall Salad Set from Wendell August to review and it is perfect for this summer!

Waterfall Salad Set from Wendell August

The set includes a large square glass serving bowl with a forged base that removes and four square glass individual salad bowls. When you set the serving bowl into the base it adds a wonderful dimension to it and if you’ll notice, the metal part makes a wonderful water-like reflection on the table. They have an entire collection of items in the Waterfall series that also compliment the salad set. I also love the Coastal Living series of platters.

While we all think salad with a salad set, go out of the box too. I made some wonderful Mixed Berry Limoncello Sauce for ice cream, recipe below, and served it in the small bowls and they were just perfect. Think about warm salads and sides at meals also like those grain and quinoa salads with lots of veggies that are so pretty. Serving them in a glass bowl likes this really impacts the beauty of the food itself.

This is a perfect wedding gift I think! I know that for me some of the serving pieces I received almost 25 years ago when I got married are the gifts I still have and use all the time. I think this Waterfall Salad Set would definitely stand the test of time. Along with weddings think wedding showers, hostess gifts, a thank you gift, or a housewarming gift as well.

If you are not familiar with Wendell August you should be. It is America’s oldest forge and their products are still handcrafted by artisans in their Pennsylvania workshop. This means that each item is also unique. Since 1923 the Wendell August Forge has been producing hand-wrought ornamental metalware and elegant giftware in aluminum and other metals. If you are traveling this summer and are in the area of their Ohio Amish Country store you can attend a free workshop tour and kids can even create their own work of metal art for just $2 each. Be sure to browse the online store for a huge assortment of gift items and home décor items.

Now for that amazing Mixed Berry Limoncello Ice Cream Sauce recipe I promised you. This goes along with my Friday cocktail series as one you can eat – yum! I’m sharing with you a single serving recipe, but you could of course make larger batches of this. I actually used frozen berries for this because we have lots of frozen ones in the house that were just bought fresh in bulk. You could, of course, make this with totally fresh berries as well if you like.

  • 1/3 cup frozen mixed berries (I used strawberries and blueberries)
  • 1 tablespoon Limoncello liquor
  • ice cream

Place the frozen berries in a small bowl and microwave for about 30 seconds. Stir well and mash up a little to release their juices. Now stir in the Limoncello. Combine well and spoon warm sauce over cold vanilla ice cream. It is incredibly delicious!

So what do you think of the Wendell August Waterfall Salad Set and other gift items they offer? Do you have an upcoming gift giving occasion that you found a perfect gift to give? And hey, how about that Mixed Berry Limoncello Sauce recipe – will you try it?

You should try using serving pieces like this more often – it really does change the feeling of a meal. Hubby, and T when he lived here, really liked when I went to the extra effort of using special serving pieces for dinner (unless they had to do dishes LOL).

I have to admit, I came to read this post because I thought it was a recipe for a salad called “waterfall salad” which sounded lovely. Someone needs to come up with that to go with these pretty bowls.
