Never Walk Home Alone – Companion App

companion appThis morning I was watching the news and so a little blurb about this new app, Companion, and I thought it was such a fabulous idea that I just had to share it with you.

For anyone that walks to or from school, work, friends, the parking garage, or anywhere, Companion lets you connect with a friend so that they know you are okay when you are taking that walk.

Simply tell Companion where you are going, point A to point B. If you start running, don’t make it on time, have headphones yanked out, or if your phone falls to the ground, Companion will check and make sure everything is okay. If you don’t respond within 15 seconds the app will automatically alert your companions. If you are feeling nervous you can tap a button to notify campus police and you can also call 911 from the app in just two taps!

Companion was developed by college students to help students on campus be safer, but it can really work in such a variety of ways for so many of us! When I am traveling out of town Hubby worries about me since we are usually out and about – but I do travel with a group generally – but still this app will help him feel a little more at ease.

It is a free app and available for iPhone and Android devices currently.

Do you know someone that this would be a great app for?

this looks like it would give me peace of mind when in dark parking garages

This would be useful for college students or anybody in a city who has to walk home in the dark…fortunately those days are over for me!

It can definitely be scary to be walking at night!~

I would use it when I go walking on the trail near where I live. It is kind of secluded in a few areas and I am always slightly nervous. Love the idea.

Thats pretty nifty. I think this would be good for caretakers of kids, and the elderly who neeed to keep track.
